Looking for something fun to do with friends or family? It can be pretty hot in the summer so how about a fun activity indoors? Consider a day trip to Atlanta to visit the Georgia Aquarium. The drive is less than 4 hours from Charlotte depending on traffic and you can either stay overnight and extend your visit or you can drive back the same day if you choose.
Plan Your Aquarium Visit
It’s simple to order tickets ahead of time (recommended) online. The website will ask you to select your arrival time. Hours in the summer do vary per day but generally are from either 8 a.m. or 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. A convenient parking garage is available and you can also purchase a discounted parking ticket ahead of time. Also, for the otter enthusiasts in the group you may want to select the Sea Otter Animal Encounter. This popular add on ticket will allow the otter lover to spend time one on one with these adorable animals. You will be in a small group of 5 or less interacting with the otters. Not planning on adding on any animal encounters? There is still plenty to do and see. Check out the map of the exhibits before your visit. The aquarium is divided by habitat into the following exhibit areas and shows: Dolphin Tales, Coldwater Quest, River Scout, Ocean Voyager, Tropical Diver, Deepos Wondershow, and Aquanaut Adventure.
Other Ideas to Extend your Visit
Visiting the aquarium will probably take several hours. However you and your friends and family may still have energy after you are finished. In that case you may want to finish your day with a visit to Piedmont Park and visit the Botanical Gardens or to enjoy a picnic lunch or dinner.
